AREFLH is a partner of the SmartProtect* EU project :  SMART agriculture for innovative vegetable crop PROTECTion: harnessing advanced methodologies and technologies

The project includes in its framework Biocaptur S50, a high-performance equipment based on the emission of electromagnetic radiation. It uses LED technology as emitters of this radiation.

The equipment is designed to operate at night, activating its operation by means of photoelectric sensors that can be combined with hourly timers. Its proven effectiveness in the elimination of pests combines the attractive effect of LED radiation with the suction of insects and their capture, all in a safe and reliable way.

BIOCAPTUR S50 consists of a LED illumination screen with a central LED spotlight and auxiliary LED spotlights, a helicoidal turbine, a collector housing containing the insect trapping bag (biobag), the whole assembly mounted on a metal support adapted to fix the equipment either on the ground or suspended.

Trials carried out with Biocaptur S50 and its previous prototypes in greenhouses in different agricultural areas of the province have demonstrated its ability to exert a definitive control on Tuta absoluta, light years ahead of other methods applied to combat this threat to tomato crops. By affecting the Tuta colony installed in the greenhouse from the early stages of its biological cycle, it not only reduces the population drastically, but also negatively affects its reproductive phase.

Biocaptur S50 does not use any substances, so it is perfectly compatible with integrated pest management and integrated production. It is programmed to act only during the hours that coincide with the biological cycle of Tuta absoluta, so it has no effect on auxiliaries and biopollinators, and, as mentioned above, it is based on an electromagnetic light frequency specific for this species.

Farm scale type: Big scale, small scale

 Application ranges: Insects

 Crops Used: Tomato

Countries it is used in: Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain & Chile.
