AREFLH is a partner in PhytoPRISM – “A Platform for Supporting a Systems Approach in Pest Risk Management”, a new Horizon Europe project funded by the European Commission under the Farm to Fork Strategy.
Protecting European crops and ecosystems from invasive and quarantine plant pests requires coordinated strategies, reliable data and effective decision-making. The PhytoPRISM project aims to address these challenges by developing a comprehensive platform to support decision-making across the agri-food value chain.
The project will explore how plant pest management strategies can be modelled, assessed and optimised throughout the entire management cycle, from prevention and early detection to outbreak response, containment, long-term management and mitigation.
By bringing together scientific knowledge, data, modelling approaches and stakeholder expertise, PhytoPRISM seeks to strengthen the coordination of plant health measures and support more effective and sustainable approaches to managing pest risks.
Building on existing knowledge and technological developments, the project will also draw on relevant resources and lessons learned from previous investments in decision-support systems, including IOM Decisions. Where appropriate, existing technical components and development experience will be reused or adapted to avoid duplication and support efficient platform development.
At the same time, PhytoPRISM will develop a new and distinct platform, with its own architecture and decision-support capabilities, specifically designed to address the challenges of systems-based risk management for invasive and quarantine plant pests.
Through this approach, PhytoPRISM aims to contribute to more informed decision-making, improved coordination across the agri-food value chain, and stronger protection of European agricultural production and ecosystems.
