The Lowinfood project reaches italian supermarkets

The Italian supermarkets of Pianeta Cospea welcome the LowinFood project via a waste-reduction technology.

The aim of the LOWINFOOD project is to  make actors of the food chains to co-design low-waste value chains by supporting the demonstration of a portfolio of innovations in the fruits & vegetables, bakery products and fish sectors (both at home and out of home).

LOWINFOOD is now present in 6 Italian supermarkets of Pianeta Cospea located in Central and South of Italy.

Pianeta Cospea srl is very sensitive to the issue of food waste in its stores. For example four of the stores owned by the company have been monitored for the quantity of food waste produced in 2015 and 2016, as part of the REDUCE project funded by the Italian Ministry of Environment.

Today, these supermarkets are participating in demonstrations by Foresightee, a start-up company who prevents food waste by leveraging new technologies. Foresightee first product is a machine learning algorithm to forecast sales of fresh produce in supermarkets.

The photo above shows the poster they have fixed at one of the supermarkets involved in LOWINFODD, located in Viterbo.
