LivingSoiLL dissemination activity
AREFLH is a partner of LivingSoiLL – “Healthy Soil to Permanent Crops Living Labs”, an Horizon Europe project funded by the European Commission.
The project took part in the Soils for Europe: Healthy Soils for a Sustainable Future Conference 2026, held in Coimbra (Portugal) from 7 to 11th September. The event brought together researchers, farmers, policymakers and Living Lab practitioners from across Europe within the EU Mission Soil community.
The project contributed to several dedicated sessions, a scientific poster session and the Living Labs & Project Fair, where LivingSoiLL hosted a dedicated stand showcasing its Living Labs, use cases and activities.
Connecting science, policy and local territories
LivingSoiLL Living Lab leaders contributed to sessions exploring how Living Labs can act as bridges between science, policy and local communities. Leonor Pereira (Luso-Galician Living Lab), Juan Manuel Jurado (Andalusian Living Lab), David Lafond (Loire Valley and Beaujolais Living Lab) and Beata Rustowska (Grójec Living Lab) shared experiences and practical approaches from their respective territories.
LivingSoiLL also organised the round table “Iberian Living Lab Experiences in Mediterranean Permanent Cropping Systems: From Practice to Policy”, together with the Trails4Soil project. The discussion brought together stakeholders from Portugal and Spain to reflect on participatory approaches to sustainable soil management and on how Living Lab experiences can contribute to wider policy objectives.
The project also contributed to the session “Enhancing Soil Research and Innovation for IMPACT”, focusing on indicators to assess the longer-term impact of Mission Soil projects and their contribution to awareness, decision-making and the uptake of sustainable soil management practices.
Sharing LivingSoiLL with a wider audience
At the Living Labs & Project Fair, visitors could discover the project’s Living Labs through posters, use cases and interviews with Living Lab leaders. The stand also featured interactive activities, including Harvest Your Prize and Bingo Connections, encouraging engagement and new connections among participants.
LivingSoiLL researchers additionally presented five scientific posters covering topics :
- soil erosion,
- wildfire recovery,
- water erosion,
- soil management monitoring
- and the physicochemical characterisation of experimental sites.
The conference provided an important opportunity for LivingSoiLL to share its Living Lab experiences, connect with other Mission Soil initiatives and strengthen cooperation across the European soil health community.
